Priorities & Results
My husband Joseph and I have lived in Paradise Hills for three decades and I know that New Mexico and House District 68 are at a crossroads. The cost-of-living is outpacing wages and there are not enough good-paying jobs right now. Public safety is top-of-mind for many families and we need a proven, common-sense approach to crime and addiction. And we need leaders in Santa Fe who will stand firm for guaranteed, affordable health care for all New Mexicans.
As the State Representative for House District 68, my work in the Legislature is guided by the needs I hear from working families, seniors, students, and small business owners on Albuquerque’s Westside.
Below are the laws and initiatives I sponsored that have become law and what they mean for our community.
Health Care, Behavioral Health, Protecting Reproductive Rights
Access to affordable, high-quality health care is essential for the well-being of families in our community. I worked to protect personal medical decisions, expand coverage, and strengthen our health care workforce.
HB 2 – Health Care Coverage Changes (2025 Special Session)
Expands and updates coverage policies to improve affordability and access to care for working families and seniors.
HM 12 – Behavioral Health Workforce Study (2024)
Addresses the shortage of mental health providers that directly affects District 68 residents by calling for a statewide study to guide workforce expansion and long-term solutions.
HB 7 – Reproductive & Gender-Affirming Health Care Freedom Act (2023)
Ensures Westside families can access reproductive and gender-affirming care without political interference, keeping deeply personal decisions between patients and their providers.
Public Safety, Justice & Community Accountability
Public safety is personal to me and the top concern for many families in District 68. My legislative work has focused on accountability, due process, and safer neighborhoods.
HB 8 – Criminal Competency & Treatment (2025)
Improves how New Mexico handles defendants found incompetent to stand trial by prioritizing treatment and public safety, thereby reducing strain on local courts and communities.HB 340 – DNA of Certain Offenders in CODIS (2025)
Strengthens law enforcement’s ability to solve crimes and prevent repeat offenses, helping keep neighborhoods safer.HB 462 – Nuisance Penalties & Procedures (2023)
Gives local governments clearer tools to address chronic problem properties — an issue frequently raised by Westside residents concerned about neighborhood safety and quality of life.HB 151 – Post-Secondary Affirmative Consent Policies (2024)
Requires public colleges and universities to adopt clear consent policies, strengthening campus safety and protecting students — including many from our district attending CNM and other public institutions.
Budget & Core Services
Strong communities require stable funding for schools, health care, public safety, and essential services.
HB 1 – General Appropriations Act (2025 Second Special Session)
Passed the state budget that funds education, health care, public safety, and services relied on by District 68 families.
Importantly, in 2023 I sponsored a bill to study Unser Blvd. improvements particularly the section from Paradise Boulevard to Irving Boulevard to increase safety for drivers, pedestrians, and bicyclists and reduce traffic-related risks through northwest Albuquerque. The City of Albuquerque and Bernalillo County are now advancing a $62 million widening and safety improvement project on Unser Boulevard (and nearby Paseo del Norte), scheduled to begin construction in January 2026.
Elections, Democracy, & Good Government
Trust in government and elections matters to District 68 voters. I have worked to modernize voting systems and protect fairness and transparency.
HB 182 – Election Changes (2024)
Modernizes election procedures to improve efficiency, voter access, and transparency — helping ensure Westside voters can participate confidently in our democracy.HB 244 – Magistrate Judge Minimum Age (2025)
Establishes a minimum age requirement for magistrate judges to strengthen judicial readiness and public confidence in the courts that serve our community.
We have even more work to do to create a safe, strong, and vibrant Westside. I hope you will join our campaign!
